Finding Joy in Familiar Places: A Personal Journey

It’s Not About the Location—It’s About Who You’re With – here are places personally i love the most in Sabah (near my hometown). Trip Kundasang or Ranau!

Introduction

I used to believe that having a favorite place meant choosing somewhere breathtakin, perhaps the ocean, the mountains, or a hidden gem tucked away in Sabah’s lush landscapes. But over time, I’ve come to understand a deeper truth:
“If you love the sea, don’t live by the shore. If you love the mountains, don’t live on the peak.”
Sometimes, the things we adore can lose their magic when they become too familiar.
That’s why I don’t have a specific favorite place. BUT, Since i live in Sabah, i adore my birthplace so much, and i could only talk about this place, because i don’t travel too much and never too far.. Because of money-short? YES, no one want to fund my expensive hobby. but anyways, I appreciate the nature.. I love to be alone with the nature.. sometimes i visit one place twice or more .Never get bored.

Ranau (Kompleks sukan)

If you ever find yourself in Ranau, Sabah, and you’re into sports or just want a nice open space to hang out, Kompleks Sukan Ranau is worth checking out. It’s not a massive stadium or anything fancy, but it’s got a great vibe, especially if you enjoy being active or spending time outdoors with family or alone with yourself. Like me.

I like to be alone and having me time usually when i want to write down my novel, poem, any creative writing etc.

My family and I have an annual rituals, we love go to camping, or homestay just to connect to each other and having family gathers.

Kundasang (camping)

Kundasang, nestled at the foot of Mount Kinabalu, is already famous for its breathtaking scenery.. rolling hills, vegetable farms, and that iconic mountain backdrop. But when you go camping there, especially at night, you get to experience a whole different side of it: the cold, crisp mountain air that wraps around you like a quiet whisper.

There’s so much more to say about camping in Kundasang or trip in Kundasang—more on that in my next post!

Reflection and Thoughts

If i have enough money and energy to go far and explore more places, i probably find my favorite one.. or if i knew i will write about this in my blog, i probably took a lot of pictures especially while trip in Kundasang.

Too much places i could be my favorite, Instead, my heart has found a new kind of favorite—one that isn’t tied to scenery, but to people.
Ever since becoming a mother, I’ve realized that my most cherished places are those where my family gathers. Whether it’s a modest camping trip with a tight budget, or a simple meal at a local restaurant or café where we order just enough to share, these moments matter. They become memories. And memories, especially with young children, are priceless.
They say childhood is the most crucial phase in shaping a person’s character. I wholeheartedly believe that. So for me, the best place in Sabah, or anywhere is wherever my children laugh, my partner smiles, and we’re together, building the kind of memories that last a lifetime.

what about you?
