How have your political views changed over time?
Political views, in my opinion, can change over time based on several factors: our background, our surroundings, and our personal experiences. This is my views IN CASE of Political Malaysia.
My interest in politics started back in high school. At that time, I was obsessed with Malaysian politics, mostly because of a controversial writer named Pak Habib. My father had a huge collection of his books. Pak Habib had a unique way of writing; he would talk about past issues and reflect them onto current politics. He often raised questions and made assumptions about how politicians think. I wish I can show you the books, but it already destroyed in fire (my childhood house burned down in 2022).
Back then, I saw politics as a world of deception, manipulation, and power. To me, it was a battle between “good” and “evil.” This curiosity led me to pursue a degree in Politics and Government. Just to learn about Malaysian politics
University changed my perspective again. I met people with different mindsets and ways of thinking. That was when I discovered Machiavelli and his famous work, The Prince. I was fascinated by the idea that “it is better to be feared than loved.” My studies became more specific, and I even did my internship at a political department. I saw firsthand how politicians expand their power using religion, media, and other tools. It was eye-opening. At that point, I truly wished I could become a political writer just like Pak Habib.

Now that I’m older, I’ve learned a valuable lesson: if a leader is hated by the public, believe me, they have also done some good. And if a leader is loved by everyone, believe me, they have also made mistakes.
Today, my writing is more general. I realized that it wasn’t just politics that attracted me, but the way Pak Habib wrote about political Malaysia I loved his use of hidden meanings, analogies, and metaphors. I enjoy playing with words and storytelling. In my own world of writing, I am my own “Machiavelli.” Check out my website.
